Pensioners marched today in Athens and other Greek cities, against the cuts the government plans to pass with the bill on social security. The pensioners asked to meet with the Minister of Labour, Social Insurance and Social Solidarity Giorgos Katrougalos and when they were told he is absent, they started throwing eggs and yoghurts at the door of the ministry. Then they marched to Syntagma Square and to the office of the Prime Minister, but they could not meet with him since he was also absent – in Brussels.
The pensioners resist any cuts on the pensions and also strongly disagree with the “zero-deficit clause” for pension funds or “sustainability rule”, as Katrougalos has renamed it.
