The congress of the opposition party LSDM (Macedonian Social Democratic League) officially confirmed last evening (04.03) the candidacy of Stevo Pendarovski for the April 13 presidential elections.
Pendarovski, a university professor, was voted by 588 delegates, after his nomination was made last week by the steering committee of the party.
The congress also approved the slogan for the elections, “Macedonia deserves a president”.
Leader of LSDM, Zoran Zaev said that the opposition will win the presidential and parliamentary elections and “hope in the country will be restored”.
“After 8 years of violations of democracy and impoverishment of the people, robberies, arrests, the Macedonian citizen will put an end to all this. Our country must win what it deserves and must vote and elect Stevo Pendarovski”, said Zaev.
“My duty as a president is to defend all the citizens, defend the Constitution and achieve the unity of the people. This country deserves to be democratic, an equal member of NATO and EU and not an autocratic state”, said Pendarovski.
LSDM candidate has so far been backed by all other Macedonian opposition parties.
Stevo Pendarovski is currently a professor in a private university in Skopje. He has previously acted as an adviser on security affairs in the cabinet of two former presidents, Boris Trajkovski and Branko Crvenkovski. /ibna/
