President Stevo Pendarovski, after meeting with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, said there were no guarantees from Paris on the date for the start of EU accession talks. He said he had an “open and dynamic” conversation with Macron and that the French president is trying to find time for the EU internal reform.
Pendarovski says Macron told him a final decision on opening negotiations in May could be expected at the Zagreb summit, but did not guarantee that the decision would be positive.
According to Pendarovski, France has already submitted an informal proposal to EU member states on reforming the methodology of accession negotiations, a reform that Macron is seeking before giving the green light to North Macedonia and Albania. After the meeting, Pendarovski said that in principle he thought the methodology could be adopted by March at the latest./ibna
