Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) candidate for parliament, Elvis Pista has been murdered on Sunday in Rahovec. The motives of the crime are still unknown.

The murder has been reported by police of Kosovo. According to a press statement from police of Rahovec, a murder has taken place on Sunday around 00:45 in front of “Haja Petrol” restaurant.

“According to preliminary reports from the scene, Elvis Pista from Rahovec was inside the restaurant along with several other people and as soon as he came out along with his wife and few other people with which he had stayed in the restaurant, he was shot from behind from a five meter distance”, reads the press statement.

Based on the cartridge found on the scene, the weapon is believed to have been of a small caliber and may have also had a muffler.

“Based on the preliminary inquiries, it’s believed that the suspect had been hiding behind a wall covered with decorative plants and from that position, he shot the victim four times. The victim was immediately rushed at the Health Center of Rahovec, but the doctor could only pronounce him dead”.

Present in the crime scene were the regional director, the head of regional inquiries, scientific police, K-9 unit and state prosecutor. Officials from the coroner’s office have also been present at the scene where they have taken the body of the victim for an autopsy. The case is being investigated by investigators from the General Police Directorate. Police of Kosovo have appealed for any member of the public who has information on the murder, to come forward.

The victim, Elvis Pista had been elected as member of parliament from the PDK. He was the only son of the family, married with two children.

Pista had declared that he would withdraw from politics in case PDK didn’t win the national elections and if Hashim Thaci was not reelected as PM, while he regarded his birthplace, Rahovec not as strong hold, but as the “home of PDK”.

Thaci sends a telegram of condolences to Pista family, he assures them that the authors will be caught

Acting prime minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci has sent a telegram of condolences to Pista family, after the murder of their son, Elvis Pista, candidate for parliament of Kosovo.

“With great sorrow I learned about the early death of your beloved one, who at the same time, was also my collaborator, Elvis. On behalf of the government of Kosovo, allow me to express to you, to his friends and relatives my most sincere condolences and our great solidarity and support.

In these difficult moments, I want to share with you the pain for the loss of Elvis, who remains in our memory as a kind man and full of energy.

Immediately after the event, I contacted the responsible authorities. I assure you that the state is taking all adequate measures and I will make all necessary efforts to resolve the case as soon as possible and bring the authors of this barbaric act before justice. I strongly condemn this criminal act, which has shocked the entire country and call on those citizens of Kosovo, who have information about the circumstances of this serious murder, to collaborate without wasting any time with police and prosecution, in order for justice to be made as soon as possible”, reads the telegram of condolences.

Haradinaj demands the capture of the authors

Head of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj also expressed his condolences about the murder of PDK parliamentary candidate,  Elvis Pista.

On his behalf and on behalf of his party expresses his condolences to the Pista family, citizens of Rahovec, collaborators of Elvis, Democratic Party of Kosovo and all of his friends.

Haradinaj also encouraged the authorities to resolve this murder as soon as possible and bring the perpetrators of this tragic act which claimed the life of Elvis Pista, before justice, reads AAK statement.

Telegrams of condolences for Pista family have also been sent by other political leaders and personalities of public life in Kosovo. /ibna/
