The participation of Kosovar athletes in the Rio Olympic Games for the first time after the country proclaimed its independence, has been good news for all the citizens of Kosovo, including the prime minister of the country, Isa Mustafa.
Premier Mustafa has congratulated the heads of Kosovo’s Olympic Committee for the work that they have done to make a decent presentation of the country in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
“To us, our participation with our state symbols is a historical moment. It is a special opportunity for us to present our country there, to manifest our sport qualities, our culture and also our country as a new state.
I praise the work of the Olympic Committee to get where we are now, the efforts of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, which has also shown special care in supporting sport”, declared the Prime Minister during a meeting with athletes who will participate in this sport event.
PM Mustafa said that everyone in Kosovo has been rejoiced by this success, expressing the commitment and the care that the government of Kosovo shows for sport.
The head of Kosovo’s Olympic Committee, Besim Hasani says that the athletes are very happy when state institutions show a strong support for them.
“In the future too, we will coordinate all our activities, in order to accomplish the mission of the Kosovo Olympic Committee and the aspirations of the athletes. We will leave for Rio following good physical and technical training. It has been a strategy, but I believe that there has also been a psychological and spiritual preparation, because all of Kosovo is supporting us, especially the government and also the President and Parliament”, Hasani said.
Rita Zeqiri, a swimmer, who will represent Kosovo in Rio, said that it is a great pleasure and honor to participate in the Olympic Games for the first time.
“For all of us athletes who represent Kosovo it is an honor and pleasure and we are hoping for a successful debut. I hope that one of the athletes who have had previous successes, Nora and Majlinda, to win medals, while for the others, I hope that they will represent our country with dignity”, Zeqiri said. /balkaneu.com
