Parliament in FYROM to extend the mandate for mayors

The new Speaker of Parliament in FYROM, Talat Xhaferi has called on political parties to extend the mandate of the heads of local government, to prevent a possible collapse of the local government.

This appeal comes at a time when the mandate of the heads of local government authorities is expected to be outdated after 15 May. After this date, these mayors will not be able to sign any orders and this could paralyze the administration.

“This issue falls under the competence of the Parliament of Macedonia, which requests to all parliamentary parties to make the necessary amendments in the Electoral Code with the scope of extending the mandates of the heads of local government authorities and set a date for the new local government elections”, Xhaferi said.

The Ministry of Local Government and Association of Municipalities have submitted to the speaker of Parliament, Talat Xhaferi a motion requesting for Parliament to find a solution. This situation was created following the failure for  local government elections to be held at the start of this month as a result of the political crisis. /balkaneu.com/
