“We hope that citizens of Macedonia will take advantage of the referendum that will be held on 30th of September in order to enable the country to become a member of the EU and NATO.”
This was declared by the director for South Central European Affairs at the US State Department, Matthew Palmer, who is staying in Skopje for a three day visit.
According to him, the US supports the agreement reached in Prespa and the perspective of the country to become a member of NATO and EU.
PM Zoran Zaev has thanked the US for the support given in the process of integration in Euroatlantic structures. According to him, the referendum for the name is a historical moment where citizens will be able to express themselves for the future of the country.
Meanwhile, after the meeting with the US official, president Djordje Ivanov has reiterated his stance that he does not accept the agreement reached between the governments of Skopje and Athens regarding the new name. President Ivanov’s cabinet said that the agreement hurts national interests. /ibna/
