During the first two years in office, Prime Minister’s Rama government has settled around 53 billion ALL worth of outstanding debt to businesses, sources from the Ministry of Finance say. This amount accounts for 5,3% of the GDP. This year up to October, the government has allocated 17,73 billion ALL. Last year, the government paid 35 billion ALL or nearly half of the total of debt. The majority of funds relates to public investments. They’re mainly unpaid contracts owed to firms for public works.
Since the arrival in power, the government drafted a special strategy to pay all arrears for businesses and relieve them from this burden which was stopping them from expanding.
According to the Ministry of Finance, all outstanding debts to businesses will be paid until the end of 2016. These amounts are estimated to be around 72,6 billion ALL or 5,3% of GDP. /ibna/
