Although slander is often unacceptable, the solution does not come by introducing tougher measures, but quite the opposite.
This was declared today by the OSCE ambassador to Tirana, Bernd Borschardt, adding that slander should not even be included in the Albanian Criminal Law.
“Although it does not receive a prison sentence, slander could receive a criminal penalty. OSCE and ODIHR have long suggested that slander be removed from Criminal Code and only be handled as a civil issue. I know that some western countries consider slander a criminal offense, but these countries have functional judicial systems, while Albania still has a lot to do”, ambassador Borschardt said. /ibna/
