OSCE: Corruption must not be fought by Serious Crimes

Tirana, December 3, 2013

OSCE has sent a letter to the parliamentary law committee on the two bills which have sparked debates in the recent days. Official sources from the Democratic Party have published the full letter, according to which OSCE welcomes the incentive of the Ministry of Justice for the improvement of the legal framework in the fight against corruption. OSCE believes that the transfer of jurisdiction for all the cases to the Prosecution and Court of Serious Crimes, is not an efficient tool for the fight against corruption.

The letter further continues by saying that corruption must be investigated by institutions specialized for this. Besides this, they do not have the adequate financial and human capacities to investigate corruption cases in the country. Such overloading would hinder the functioning of these institutions. /ibna/
