Some tens of thousands of citizens participated today in the protest organized by the three opposition parties, Self Determination, AAK and Incentive for Kosovo, demanding the government’s resignation.

The opposition leaders said that the large number of participants in this protest shows that “Kosovo can no longer endure to be governed by people who have violated the Constitution”, by alluding to the Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and deputy prime minister Hashim Thaci.

Leader of Self Determination, Visar Ymeri declared that the opposition protest aim at protecting the sovereignty of Kosovo.

He said that the opposition along with the people will not give up until the government is overthrown.

“We have come out here today to remove these people who have captured the state, in order for Kosovo to be free. The people of Kosovo defend the republic. We are the alternative for progress, for unification and freedom. The state cannot be built by thieves and democracy cannot be built by criminals”, Ymeri said.

“If elections are not announced until 27 February, our protests will not stop”, Ymeri added.

Leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj said that the people are the only legitimate quorum that exists in a democracy.

“Your are taking your fate into your own hands. When corrupt officials do something wrong, you have the right to react. You are the ones to decide and not corrupt officials”, Haradinaj declared.

Jakup Krasniqi, founder of Incentive for Kosovo said that the opposition is protesting to defend the independent and democratic republic proclaimed on 17 February 2008. Krasniqi demanded the resignation of the government.

“We are defending the republic from our own government people, who instead of protecting it, they give it to Serbia. Today we are defending the republic from those who are giving away sovereignty through the Brussels’ agreements, demarcation and those who violated the decision of the Constitutional Court”, he declared.

In contrast to other protests, this one was peaceful and without incidents. /ibna/
