Leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, had a meeting today with the representatives of the International Monetary Fund.

During this meeting, Basha said that the government is not being transparent and is trying to cover with propaganda, a virtual Albania which only exists in the mind of the prime minister, while Albanians can barely make their ends meet.

As far as the new parliamentary session is concerned, Basha said that the decision for the boycott is still in force until a further decision of the parliamentary group.

As far as the theft of the Bank of Albania is concerned, he considered it as unacceptable, adding that the opposition is not politically using it.

“We’re convinced that political capitalization would harm the Albanian banking system. But, this has not prevented the government from using this event for political purposes, as the government wants to control the Bank of Albania, at a time when damaging confidence on the banking system would burden Albanian people”, said Basha, commenting for the first time on the theft of 713 million USD at the Bank of Albania.

Brace: The theft is a big problem, BoA refuses to provide information

Meanwhile, the chairman of the parliamentary committee of economy, Erion Brace declared that the Bank of Albania has refused to provide information to parliament, by saying that according to the law, the Bank cannot withhold information.

Brace said that since 2009, the Bank of Albania has refused to provide information to parliament, while responding to governor Ardian Fullani, he declared that he will comply with the law and have no personal meeting with him.

The head of the economy committee said that it’s not the committee that depends on the Bank of Albania, but the Bank of Albania is the one that must answer to the economy committee.

Brace said that in the past three years, out of  500 report pages, governor Fullani has only submitted six pages of information, adding that information relating to the personnel of the Bank of Albania  is lacking.

According to him, the reports of the Bank of Albania offer shocking facts according to which the theft of 713 million ALL is not the biggest problem of the Bank, as there are more serious problems with contracts, expenses, etc. Brace also said that it’s unacceptable for the governor of the Oversight Committee of the Bank of Albania to declare that they cannot be held accountable. According to him, resignation is an optional gesture, while the rest is regulated by law. /ibna/
