An anti narcotic operation carried out in the port of Durres during the early hours of this morning, led to the discovery of one ton of narcotic substance, namely marijuana, which was destined to Italy.
Three people were arrested for their involvement in this international traffic of narcotics, IBNA was told by a local police official. Elona Muca, head of communication at the Police of Durres, told IBNA that the operation name coded “Poker”, followed a tip off that a large number of narcotics was being transported to Italy through a lorry that carried wood.
As a result of the operation, police arrested, on the count of plotting to traffic narcotics, the owner of the lorry, Albert Doku, 51 years of age from Tirana and Ervin Pellumbi, 36 years of age, born and resident in Tirana and Gani Bushati, 55 years of age, born and resident in Bushat, Shkoder.
Police said that the narcotic substance was found hidden in three wood packages inside of the lorry. Police also added that investigations are under way to catch the other people involved in this criminal activity.

In the recent weeks there have been a significant number of discoveries of narcotic substances which were aimed to leave Albania.
Anti narcotics experts told IBNA that a part of the drug which was not discovered by police during their operations against cultivation, is now being smuggled abroad.
This also explains the hundreds of kilograms of marijuana caught in the recent days in different land and sea border crossing points of the country. /ibna/
