In Kosovo, there is no filter about the information published on news portals and the lack of the application of the media code of ethics is a real problem.
Furtuna Sheremeti from the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) says that the media needs to regulate itself and according to her, the situation is more serious than it seems.
“The situation is not what it seems. It’s very easy to sit down and identify many ethical and also professional and legal violations on some of the portals”, she says.
Senad Kamenica from the OSCE mission in Kosovo, says that portals must also be held accountable.
“I understand that these portals do business, but every business must be held accountable and be responsible”, he says.
Meanwhile, the head of the Kosovo Committee of Media, Imer Mushkolaj, talks about some of the problems that this committee faces.
“We have problems in reporting the truth. We have had and continue to have problems relating to the language of hate, especially in the comments that readers make, although some media have decided not to publish these comments”, Mushkolaj says. /ibna/
