Olympiacos has mathematically secured the title, the 41st in his long history, after its 2-0 win over Panthrakicos in Karaiskakis stadium. Five turns before Super League’s finishing line, the team from Piraeus finished first in the title race and can now turn their attention with an elevated psychology to the second game with Manchester United in “Old Trafford”, on March 19.
Valdez’s goal 35′ in the game gave Olympiacos the lead, while Panthrakicos 6 minutes later remained with ten players after Sarakatsanou was send off with a second yellow. In the second half, given the numerical disadvantage, the visitors were unable to threaten the champions and conceded a second goal from Fuster in the final minute of the game.
Olympiacos became the first team in Europe to secure the championship, beating Bayern Munich from Germany, Salzburg from Austria and Seltic from Scotland just before the finishing line.
