The Conference of the Democratic Left will take place in October 2-5, as resulted from the roll vote held during the meeting of the party’s Central Committee.
The decision of the CC to hold the Congress in October, a few months after DIMAR’s failure in the European elections, was anything but unanimous:
In the poll conducted on Saturday, in a total of 108 members, 63 voted in favor of the Congress taking place in October, 17 members voted for the proposal of the Congress taking place in November, while 24 members supported the proposal of the “Reform Tendency” to postpone the Congress. There were also 4 blanks.
The reform trend of Spyros Lykoudis had already communicated that they will not take part in the Congress, questioning its “credibility”.
The meeting approved the position papers, the regulation of the pre-conference proceedings and the draft Statute of the Congress.
Concluding the meeting, Fotis Kouvelis responded with sharp language to the critic he received by prominent members of the party, in regard to his stance on the rumours that want Prime Minister Antonis Samaras proposing him as candidate for President of the Republic.
