Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Victoria Nuland was in a visit to Pristina, where she demanded from the president of Kosovo the voting of the Special Tribunal and the continuation of talks for the normalization of relations with Serbia.
“State of Kosovo and its political leadership must show maturity and decisiveness in addressing integrating and development challenges for the country, such as the process of dialogue with Serbia and Special Tribunal. It’s necessary for Kosovo to close this chapter, in order for the country to move forward”, Nuland recommended to Kosovo leadership.
US diplomat has initially met with the president of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga.
The meeting discussed the current developments of Kosovo, the commitment of institutions of Kosovo for the rule of law and the creation of Special Tribunal, challenges in the fight against extremism and radicalism and the speeding up of the process of European integration.
“Institutions of the country and citizens of Kosovo are committed in consolidating the state and meet international obligations. Institutions are also soon expected to vote the Special Tribunal in order to address the allegations of the Council of Europe report and in order for such step not to be taken by the UN Security Council”, Jahjaga said.
Commenting the process of talks with the Republic of Serbia, president Jahjaga said that Kosovo is committed in this process and demands a concrete implementation of all the agreements that have been reached.
The senior US official has also been received in a meeting by speaker of parliament Kadri Veseli.
Veseli assured her that Kosovo will overcome all challenges with a state responsibility in partnership with the US and EU.
