“What proposals for elections in late August or early September actually propose is not having elections at all. There is neither a health nor a political authority that can claim and guarantee that there will be no cases by then. It is our responsibility to oppose any attempt to provoke a political crisis”, said SDSM President Zoran Zaev in an interview with mkd.mk before the start of the crucial week for resolving the drama around the election date.
He indirectly hinted that a compromise was possible on the date: “We are democrats and we believe that elections should be a democratic competition between the government and the main opposition. Therefore, we will do what is necessary to ensure the participation of the opposition. We have no problem talking about reaching an agreement, but we will not allow citizens or the state to be harmed by unnecessary delays”.
Continuing, Zoran Zaev added that “None of us should even try, let alone endanger the health of our people, the country that is facing a constitutional crisis, a dead-end that will slow down all the processes and activities that aim at protecting the health of citizens, saving jobs and helping their domestic budget”./ibna
