The Alliance for Albanians-Alternative are not formally negotiating for membership in the new government, as there is no candidate for the prime minister’s post yet. The leader of the Alliance stated that they would first wait for the DUI to play all its cards, and only then will they act on their demands. According to Ziadin Sela, if the DUI’s promise for an Albanian Prime Minister is not accepted, Ali Ahmeti will have to join the opposition. Even if the information about a rotating Prime Minister, in which case the DUI will assume the Prime Ministry for a year, is verified, this should be considered a defeat for Ahmeti.
To support the new government, the Alliance and Alternative will seek to meet the demands that comprised their program: Solving the problem of the 70,000 stateless citizens, adding a national dimension to the Law on Equal Representation, gender equality of the entire administration, but also the use of the Albanian language in the Constitution.
Negotiations for a new government are expected to intensify after the new National Assembly is called into session that the outgoing President of Talat Xhaferi had scheduled for Tuesday at noon. By August 15, President Pendarovski must deliver the mandate for the composition of the new government cabinet. /ibna
