On Friday, the President of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, had a telephone conversation with the head of the Roman Catholic Church Pope Francis, in which he expressed his regret that due to the Covid-19 pandemic his visit to the Vatican on the occasion of 24 May, the day of the missionaries Cyril and Methodius and the meeting with His Holiness, had to be rescheduled.
In the telephone conversation, views were exchanged on the overall bilateral relations between the Republic of North Macedonia and the Holy See, which are friendly and based on important historical ties, common spiritual and cultural values and traditions, the President’s Office announced.
Emphasizing the historical significance of last year’s visit of the Pope, President Pendarovksi pointed out the interest of North Macedonia to deepen ties with the Vatican in all areas of mutual interest. Among other things, the two interlocutors exchanged information about the current situation related to the pandemic. President Pendarovski praised Pope Francis’ role in encouraging people and nations in solidarity as a key element in the joint fight against the pandemic and its aftermath, the presidency said in a statement. /ibna
