Citizens of North Macedonia head to the polls today to elect the country’s new president. Over 1.8 million eligible voters will choose between three candidates: Stevo Pendarovski, who is backed by the governing coalition; Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, who is backed by the Macedonian opposition party, VMRO-DPMNE and Blerim Reka, the only Albanian candidate who has the backing of two Albanian opposition parties, Alliance for Albanians and Besa.
The presidential campaign has been been a quiet one and different to the ones before. The Prespa agreement, reforms, integration and the state have been some of the issues dominating this campaign.
If none of the candidates take more than 50% of votes, the two candidates with most votes will head to a run-off on May 5th. /ibna/
