North Macedonia: Chief prosecutor Janeva reacts following scandal incriminating her

After more than a week since the scandal broke out, the head of the Special Prosecutor’s Office, Katica Janeva declared today that she has not abused with her powers and that she’s not involved in the so called “Racket” case, where a businessman was extorted 1.5 million euros.

She said that she had known the main suspect of the case, Bojan Jovanovski, who is owner of 1TV network and where her son worked as head of marketing.

“I have never, in any way, knowingly or unknowingly, misused the duties I’m still performing. I publicly encourage the judicial bodies to fully investigate all the circumstances involving the ‘Racket’ case”, said outgoing head of the Special Public Prosecutor’s Office, Katica Janeva.

She said that many have abused with her name for different reasons.

The largest opposition party, VMRO-DPMNE demanded Janeva’s arrest, as according to this party, she was involved in the extortion of money from a person under investigation by the Special Prosecutor’s Office.

But PM Zoran Zaev said that investigation must only concentrate on the possibility of her involvement. /ibna/
