The Italian Foreign Minister, Emma Bonino has been received in a meeting today by the President of Republic, Bujar Nishani.
During this meeting, both personalities praised the relations between the two countries, relations which have been reflected on close collaboration in the recent decades and which will remain the same when both countries are EU member countries.
President Nishani said that the successes of Albania in the consolidation of democracy, accession in the NATO, free movement and advancement in the process of European integration are fruits of the efforts of the people and Albanian institutions, but they would be more difficult to be achieved without the help of our partners, such as Italy.
The head of the state guaranteed the guest for the continuation of reforms, determination of Albania to contribute toward peace and stability in the region and expressed his belief that the country will be granted the EU candidate status based on merit.
On her part, minister Bonino congratulated Albania for the achievements made so far and said that Italy will continue to support Albania in its EU path and in 2014, which will be the Mediterranean year, for attention of European people to be focused on the opportunities and challenges that the Region offers. /ibna/
