Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias will be in New York to accompany Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in the 71th Session of the UN General Assembly and to participate in the High Level Meeting Week, from 16 to 24 September.
In the sidelines of the Summit’s works Nikos Kotzias will hold a series of contacts with his foreign counterparts from the Balkans, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and South America. He will also meet with representatives of international and regional institutions, in accordance with the framework of the multidimensional and active foreign policy of Greek diplomacy.
The Greek Foreign Minister will also attend the meeting of EU Foreign Ministers and the transatlantic meeting of Foreign Ministers of the EU and NATO, while he will also present the Greek positions on issues of regional and global interest in a series of events he will participate during his stay in New York.
Nikos Kotzias will have a bilateral meeting with the Secretary General of the Islamic Cooperation Organization, in which they will discuss issues of common interest related to the radicalization of Islam, terrorism etc. He will also hold a series of contacts with Diaspora and Jewish US organizations of America, where he will discuss the broader enabling of expatriates on national issues, but also on the greek economy, while with the Jewish organizations he will seek ways of cooperation for investments.
Of great importance will be the scheduled trilateral and quadrilateral meetings in the sidelines of the Summit.
In New York will take place the second quadripartite meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania, where discussions will focus on regional developments in the EU, the refugee problem, as well as in intra-Community cooperation in economy, development, investment etc. The first meeting had taken place following Nikos Kotzias initiative in Sofia, Bulgaria.
What’s more, also for the second time will be held in New York the trilateral meeting of Foreign Ministers of Greece, Cyprus and Egypt, in which there will be the preparation for the Tripartite Summit in the first ten days of October in Cairo.
For the first time will be held at the level of Foreign Ministers a trilateral meeting of Greece, Cyprus and Palestine, thus expanding the scope of cooperation in the wider region of the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean.
Nikos Kotzias will also accompany – according to exclusive information of IBNA from senior Turkish diplomatic sources – the Greek Prime Minister in his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who in turn will be accompanied by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
According to unconfirmed information, the Greek PM will also participate in the meeting of Alexis Tsipras with John Biden, which has not yet been officially confirmed.
Finally, the Foreign Minister will attend a number of events on issues of regional and global concern, such as, inter alia, the opening of the plenary session of the UN Summit on the Management of Large-Scale Refugee and Migratory Movements, as well as the annual event for the Middle East.
