Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias completed the contacts and meetings he had during the High Level week of the 71st Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York (17-23 September), where he accompanied Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
The Foreign Minister had a series of bilateral and trilateral contacts with counterparts and participated in discussions and high-level events, as well as in ministerial meetings of international and regional organizations.
In particular, Mr Kotzias held meetings with his counterparts from the Republic of Korea, Mr Yun Byung-se, Bolivia, Mr David Choquehuanca Céspedes, Libya, Mr Mohamed Taha Siala, Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, Iraq, M. Ibrahim al-Jaafari, FYROM, Mr Nikola Poposki, while he met with Kosovar Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj.
The Foreign Minister also had meetings with the UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser on the Cyprus problem, Espen Barth Eide, the Secretary General of the Islamic Cooperation Organization, Iyad Ameen Madani and the Personal UNSG Envoy on the issue of FYROM’s name, Mathew Nimetz.
In addition, he participated in the first trilateral meeting of Foreign Ministers of Greece, Cyprus and Palestine, as well as the trilateral meeting of Greece, Cyprus and Egypt. At the same time, he took part in the quadripartite meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania, which took place for the second time.
Mr Kotzias participated in the meeting of EU Foreign Ministers and the Transatlantic dinner of EU Foreign Ministers and NATO, and had meetings with representatives of the Pan-Macedonian Association, the Cypriot Diaspora and major American-Jewish Organizations.
The Foreign Minister made a presentation at the think tank «Council on Foreign Relations» Greece’s positions on major regional issues and also attended the Ministerial Dinner on the Middle East, which was organized by the «International Peace Institute».
During his presence in New York, the Foreign Minister accompanied Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, in his meetings with the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the US Vice-President Joe Biden, the President Iran, Hassan Rouhani and the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon.
