Olympiakos – Man United 2-0
One of Olympiakos’ greatest European nights has ended in triumph as the greek champions beat Manchester United 2-0 in G. Karaiskakis stadium for the UEFA Champions League round of 16.
The greek side exhibited passion and determination throughout the game countered by slow reactions and monotony from the other side. Olympiakos players stayed focused on the game plan, where always first on the ball and with Alejandro Dominguez as their leader and scorer of the first goal came through with a much deserved win.
Olympiakos took the lead in the 38th minute with Alejandro Dominguez with the Arsenal loanee Joel Cambell sealing the victory nine minutes after the break with an amazing long range curled shot, which left Man United goalkeeper David De Gea unable to react.
The fact that the red devils’ first registered shot on target came on the 89th minute says everything. Robin van Persie, however, had a clear chance to improve his team’s odds in Manchester, but his shot ten minutes before the final whistle, went over the bar. That was an uncharacteristic finish from the Dutchman, which showed his frustration for the way his team performed.
The second leg is scheduled for March 19 at Old Trafford, in which Olympiakos has a historic chance to progress to the quarter finals.
