For the positive stance of Cyprus towards the efforts of Athens to negotiate with its partners thanked Alexis Tsipras the president of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades, during a telephone conversation. Meanwhile, the negotiation of Athens with its partners has opened a debate in Cyprus regarding the stance of Nicosia against the troika. Government spokesman stressed that the Cypriot government has achieved things, which Athens is trying to achieve now.

The Cypriot government, according to its spokesman Nicos Christodoulides, negotiated and negotiate hard with the troika and has achieved important goals. Christodoulides noted that Greece and Cyprus were faced with the troika “under completely different circumstances”.

Speaking to CyBC, the government spokesman claimed that “Athens is attempting to achieve things which Nicosia has succeeded in the negotiations”.

One of the major successes, he stressed, which mitigated and the impact of the adjustment program by the Cypriot people, was the time shift of the obligation for primary surplus of 4% from 2016 to 2018.

Moreover, Archbishop Chrysostomos said that Cyprus should have claimed more, but there is always time, he said, to do so.

Although he characterises the policy of Athens as correct, he stresses that “in order for the Greek state to survive, the Greeks must behave responsibly”.
