Late last night, the monument of the Serb prince, Lazarus, 7,5 meters long, was installed last night in the north of Mitrovica, near the Iber river bridge.

The monument which weighs 8 tons will be unfolded by the head of the office for Kosovo in the Serb government, Marko Djuric on 28 June.

This day marks the 627 anniversary of the Battle of Kosovo, which took place in 1389, during which Serb claim that they have defeated the Ottoman army.

The monument was a donation from Serbia, while the decision for the erection of this monument was submitted by the majority of councilors in the municipality of Northern Mitrovica.

Central institutions are yet to issue a declaration for this act. The European Union has pledged the revitalization of the bridge on Iber river, which has remained blocked since the end of the war.

The reintroduction of free movement on the bridge has not been possible, because Serbs have not been willing to implement the Agreements reached in the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia in Brussels. /balkaneu.com/
