Montenegro is at a crossroad and must choose whether to follow the path of the European future, or to return to the sidelines of the Balkan wasteland, said Zoran Pažin, a member of the Main Board of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS).
As it was announced, the DPS organized on Wednesday evening a public discussion in Cetinje with the topic “State Identity of Montenegro”.
Pažin said that the DPS has shown that it has the ability, readiness and strength to defend the civil society in Montenegro.
“Montenegro stands at a crossroads and must choose whether to step strongly along the path of the European future, side by side with developed European nations, or to return to the sidelines of the Balkan wasteland”, Pažin said.
He said that the most important and oldest values in Montenegro are those that do not divide citizens by religion and nation, but that unite citizens through the values of anti-fascism, freedom, equality, justice and mutual solidarity.
“We do not want our children to be counted nationally in 30 years or ever in the way that the political alternative offers us”, Pažin emphasized.
Speaking about the program commitments of the DPS, Pažin said that Montenegro needs further strengthening of the three pillars, knowledge, institutions and culture in order to improve its state identity.
He stated that knowledge is a resource that everyone must count on, and emphasized that Montenegro will be as strong as its institutions.
According to him, today the public is being subjected to the perfidious thesis that the cultural goods of Montenegro are not Montenegrin, but belong to someone else.
“If Montenegro does not have its own cultural heritage and it belongs to someone else, then there is no state identity of Montenegro. If not, it is known what is next – the disappearance of Montenegrin statehood. We must not allow that and it should be opposed in a democratic manner”, Pažin concluded./ibna
