An illegally built guest house in the monastery of St. Vasilije Ostroški of the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral on Briska gora near Ulcinj was demolished this morning, in the presence of police forces.
The Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism of Montenegro points out that the illegally built facility disrupted the appearance of the ambient completeness of the Church of St. Basil of Ostrog from the 18th century.
“In Zoganj near Ulcinj, this morning the demolition of an illegally built facility with a projected area of several hundred square meters began. The building disturbed the ambient completeness of the Church of Saint Vasilije Ostroški from the 18th century and represented a blatant devastation of space”, the Ministry states.
They point out that the facility was built illegally, without an application for construction and without documentation.
“The Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral (Orthodox Church Municipality of Ulcinj), which carried out illegal works, is prohibited from carrying out works on the construction of an illegal facility near the church. As the control inspection determined the continuation of works, a decision was made in accordance with the authorizations of the Urban Construction Inspector to demolish the illegal facility, the administrative implementation of which began this morning through the executive service of the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism”, the Ministry explains.
The Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, Amfilohije, condemned the demolition of the konak.
“Sveti Vasilije Ostroški (Saint Basil) has been, and remains, a living witness of the truth of God and a healer of lies and deception, of false knowledge and false teachings for 350 years. He is especially so now, at this moment when the authorities of this country are demolishing the monastery of Saint Basil on Briska Gora near Ulcinj, which was recently established, when Saint Basil builds human souls and renews them, everywhere in the world and even here. And when he calls for brotherly love and harmony for everyone, regardless of whether they are Orthodox or non-Orthodox – at that moment, this crime of the current government is happening”, Amfilohije said.
Some opposition parties also condemned the demolition, saying that it was obvious that in this manner the Montenegrin government wanted to respond to the announced processions in several Montenegrin cities./ibna
