Optimistic about the Cyprus issue was the British Secretary of State Philip Hammond (photo) who is visiting Greece and who is to visit also Turkey.
“I am optimistic that we are close to significant progress in resolving this conflict,” he said. “What we want is a viable solution in Cyprus and we will do everything we can to make this happen” he said at a joint press conference with Mr. Kotzias, the Greek Foreign Minister.
Optimism was indirectly expressed from Turkey too. Last Monday, Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu had noted that “Ankara should fulfill its commitments to ensure that this year a solution will be found for Cyprus”.
There was an optimistic comment from Europarliament also. The President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz during a press conference on the priorities for the new year, said that on his opinion “it is possible in 2016 to witness the reunification of Cyprus”.
