The support of ND to the tourism industry voiced Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his meeting with the board of the Association of Tourism Enterprises.
“We need a stable tax policy, with reduced rates, a clear framework for land use and a stable framework supporting investment in tourism so that we can attract the necessary funds to enable the Greek tourism to realize its full developmental potential”, Mr Mitsotakis said after the meeting.
In parallel, the president of ND described 2016 as a “good year” for tourism but left edges against the government, noting that 2016 is both a year “of major missed opportunity”, since as the stressed, tourism could go much better if the image of the country abroad was better.
“Problems such as refugee management, unfortunately, downgraded the country’s image and had some negative impact on tourism”, said the leader of the opposition, stressing that the policy of overtaxation followed by the government leads to “very low investment rates in tourism, and as a result we can not make the most of its major advantages”.
“Tourism can be the ‘locomotive’ that will bring development, but there is need for a functional investment law and a special treatment in the matter of investments”, said on his part the president of SETE Andreas Andreadis.
