Pristina, July 4, 2013
The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has decided the closure of Prizren based university “International University of Prizren”.
Meanwhile, police of Kosovo confirmed on Thursday afternoon that it has arrested a person on the suspicion of “fraud” and “tax evasion”.
“Economic Crime and Corruption Unit in Prizren has arrested a person who is suspected to have committed fraud and tax evasion. Police investigators along with inspectors of higher education at the Ministry of Education, have checked all the paperwork about the licensing and accreditation of the International University of Prizren”, said police sources in Kosovo.
Once all the checks were made, it resulted that the university in question hasn’t been accredited, or licensed and since 2010 it has accepted enrollments from 72 students for the academic year 2010/2011 in Bachelor and Master studies, promising them that they would complete their studies in this university.
This university initially started out as a branch of the International University of Struge and then in 2011 it enrolled 14 students for the academic year 2011-2012 as the International University of Prizren (photo), which had an agreement of understanding with the state owned “Aleksander Xhuvani” university in Elbasan, Albania.
All students have been deceived and at the end they have been obliged to continue their studies in Struge-FYR Macedonia.
The second academic year which was completed in Prizren was not recognized by the International University of Prizren, therefore they had to continue their studies in Elbasan, Albania.
The amount paid by students who have been registered in this university has been 255 400 Euros, an amount which was generated illegally.
The revenues generated by students’ enrollment have not been declared to the tax authorities, which raises suspicions for tax evasion.
Prosecution of Prizren has started an investigation and a person initialed D.G has been arrested in order to be held in custody for 48 hours. /ibna/
