The Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Mr. Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, flies on Tuesday, 12 July 2016 to Bratislava, Slovakia, in order to participate in the Informal meeting of EU ministers for energy, which is to be held on Wednesday, July 13.
The joint meeting of EU ministers for energy will be dedicated to key issues related to achieving the EU’s energy objectives. The main focus of the discussion will be on sustainable financing of the transition to a low-carbon economy and on governance of the Energy Union, which aims to strengthen cooperation among Member States in developing energy policies. Delegates will deal with energy prices and costs in Europe and they will discuss the impact of energy costs on the EU’s competitiveness and how to ensure that the EU strategy for liquefied natural gas is to contribute to EU energy security.
In the framework of the EU informal meeting, Mr. Lakkotrypis is to meet with Amos J. Hochstein, Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs at the US Department of State, will have an opportunity to present their views on this topic.
Minister Lakkotrypis will return to Cyprus early Thursday, 14 July.
