EU Council President Charles Michel and German Chancellor Angela Merkel held a virtual meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in preparation of the forthcoming EU Council.
According to the representative of the President of the European Council, they discussed about various aspects of bilateral relations between the EU and Turkey.
They also discussed the resumption of direct Greek-Turkish exploratory talks.
For his part, the Turkish President underlined his appreciation for Berlin’s mediation efforts, stressing the importance of a regional conference to be held in the Eastern Mediterranean with the participation of all parties, including the Turkish-Cypriots, according to a statement by the Communications Directorate.
Greece’s next step will be important in how the agreement on restoring communication channels progresses, Erdogan said.
The Turkish side was represented by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, National Intelligence Agency (MIT) Chief Hakan Fidan, Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, Presidential Spokesman Ibrahim Kalin, and Ministerial Council President Hasan Dogan. /ibna
