The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, Ambassador Alexandros Zenon, represented Cyprus at the OSCE informal Ministerial Conference, which was held in Potsdam, Germany, on 1 September.
According to an official announcement, the meeting was chaired by the German Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, as the Chairman-in-Office of the Organization for 2016. During the meeting, discussions were held on the common challenges for the security of the OSCE region, and on deepening the cooperation between OSCE participating states.
Special emphasis was given to the engagement of the Organization in crisis and conflict management, as well as to the fight against asymmetric threats such as terrorism and the proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction.
The meeting also dealt with the preparation of the December OSCE Ministerial Conference to be held in Hamburg, Germany, in which the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ioannis Kasoulides, intends to participate.
