A member of the Supreme Court in Albania has escaped from Albania a few hours after an order of suspension from duty was issued against her for involvement in corruption in a scandal relating to an antique property in Butrint.
Majlinda Andrea, judge of the Supreme Court, suspended from duty following suspicions of a corruption affair, seems to have left Albania in secrecy, the General Attorney’s office says.
The prosecution’s inquest has pointed out that three citizens are suspected to have paid to judge Majlinda Andrea an amount of 50 thousand euros in order to issue a ruling in their favor in the process for the recognition of an area of 40 hectares in Butrint, a process which was being tried by the Supreme Court.
According to the prosecution, the money has been given to the judge’s husband, against whom an arrest warrant was issued, but he also seems to have left Albania. Odhise Andrea is an advisor at the Parliament of Albania and works at the Security Committee (photo below).
Three people have been arrested in relation to this scandal. They are considered to be former owners of a 40 hectares plot near the antique area of Butrint.
This is the first time that a judge of the Supreme Court is investigated on a corruption related case. This is also the first time that a member of the Supreme Court escapes from Albania. /balkaneu.com/
