Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev, as part of the agenda for participation in the EU Western Balkans Summit, also met with President of the Republic of France Emmanuel Macron, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Angela Merkel and President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rumen Radev.
The meeting, which was also attended by the Vice-President in charge of European Affairs, Nikola Dimitrov, expressed commitment to the EU enlargement process with the Western Balkan countries and confirmed the Union’s strategic interest in this issue.
Zoran Zaev expressed his gratitude for this commitment and stressed that it is of great importance that leaders such as President Macron and Chancellor Merkel take steps to help find solutions to bilateral differences rooted in the past.
At the meeting, Zoran Zaev welcomed the leadership of President Macron and Chancellor Merkel and thanked France and Germany for looking forward to the future and helping to resolve the Balkan disputes of the past.
At the meeting, Zoran Zaev expressed the expectations and clear commitments of the citizens of North Macedonia for the European future of his country, stressing that all EU member states urgently need European steps in order not to allow our people to become disillusioned and therefore increase risks of intensifying retrograde nationalist currents.
During the talks, the mutual readiness and interest of North Macedonia and Bulgaria to continue the dialogue between the two countries with a view to reaching a solution was also expressed./ibna
