The government and the opposition are still not reaching an agreement on the new Prosecution Law, which also regulates the Special Prosecution’s fate. A meeting between Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski had been planned in recent days, but his holding has failed. Party sources have said the meeting has failed because there is no agreement between the two sides.
Mickoski, in a video message posted on his official Facebook profile, has reiterated his view that no compromise is planned for justice and that the government is seeing hidden intentions regarding the Law on Public Prosecutors.
Whereas the main ruling party SDSM (Social Democratic League) emphasized that VMRO-DPMNE is continuing with the scenario for the country not to get a date for starting talks with the EU. Prime Minister Zaev’s party also stressed that the opposition does not want the Special Prosecutor’s Office to function. With the new law on the Prosecution, the Special Prosecution will become part of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Corruption. /ibna
