Next meeting between Kosovo and Serbia to be held on 24 January

High Representative of the EU for Foreign Policy and Security, Federica Mogherini has invited authorities in Pristina and Belgrade to hold a meeting on 24 January in Brussels in the framework of the dialogue for the normalization of relations.

“The recent developments stress the need for extra commitment of both sides through dialogue”, says the statement issued today for the media, adding that “the progress for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia remains very important for both sides, for the European Union and Western Balkans in general”.

Meanwhile, in Pristina, the opposition and the majority share opposite stances in relation to this process.

While the opposition is demanding for dialogue to be suspended, the government wants to change the framework of the talks.

Faton Abdullahu, the PM’s advisor, says that Kosovo is obliged to dialogue and that this process must be redefined.

“PM Mustafa has also said that we cannot continue like this. The Serb side doesn’t implement the Brussels’ agreements. This logic has damaged us. We have been very constructive so far. We want the European Union to realize that we’re facing a delinquent Serbia and for Brussels to help us redefine dialogue”, Abdullahu says.

Minister for Dialogue, Edita Tahiri said that the process of dialogue with Serbia cannot last endlessly.

She said that Kosovo has demanded from the European Union to set deadlines in this process. Tahiri said that it is necessary to redefine dialogue.

Meanwhile, political analysts say that the agreements that have been reached so far must be implemented and that dialogue should be finalized with mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia. /
