Russia treats Greece as “a very important partner with prospect”, said Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, welcoming his Greek counterpart Alexis Tsipras in the Russian government’s Reception Mansion.

Speaking to Tsipras, Medvedev expressed his optimism that “apart from the political parameter of your visit I hope there will be other (practical) results as well” and invited him to present the open bilateral economic cooperation issues between two countries, which have been at the center of talks between the two delegations.

In response, the Greek prime minister described as “very substantial” yesterday’s meeting with President Vladimir Putin, whereas the foundations were laid for a radical reboot of relations between the two countries, “relations, which certainly have very deep roots” as the feelings of friendship and brotherhood between our peoples are a given.

“But it was necessary to give a new impetus to these relations by discussing on a number of areas, such as energy, trade, tourism, culture”, observed the Greek Prime Minister, stressing that “we are confident and happy because this efforts will be successful and that in 2016 we will organise an exceptional Greek-Russian year to the benefit of our two peoples and countries, mainly in what concerns the deepening of our relations, which will create the conditions for deepening and stability in the wider region”.
