A complicated procedure of heart transplant into first Romanian with artificial implant was finalized successfully. The patient who received the new heart had a device for regulating cardiac flow. The surgery unfolded in good conditions and lasted for about five hours, according to the head of the Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic of the Emergency Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases and Transplantation Targu Mures, Dr. Horatiu Suciu. Now the transplanted patient requires a longer recovery period, since it has been a first nationwide operation. The heart donor was a 24 years old man.

Dr. Suciu says that this modern treatment is a complementary procedure, helping patients with severe heart failure, giving them a chance to survive until a heart transplant. He showed that there are patients who have been for 6 to 7 years on such a device and that, on January 15, 2015 Romania aligned to the international standards in the modern treatment of heart failure. In Germany, the procedure was introduced in 2007-2008, and in Croatia in 2008.
