Mayor of Skenderaj arrested on suspicion of war crimes

The mayor of Skenderaj, Sami Lushtaku has been arrested today on suspicion of war crimes. “Upon the request of the special prosecutor, Sami Lushtaku has been arrested today and he’s being kept in police custody. Lushtaku is suspected of having committed war crimes and of violating the Geneva Convention”, said Arianit Koci, Lushtaku’s defending attorney.

Meanwhile, the court is yet to decide about his custody.

“Lushtaku will appear before court tomorrow, which may decide to remand him into custody”, said Koci.

EULEX police in cooperation with the Special Operation Unit of Kosovo Police have arrested 5 people.

The five individuals are being investigated on suspicion of war crimes against civil population kept in captivity at the base of the National Kosovo army in Likovc (Commune of Skenderaj), informs EULEX.

According to the information received, this case is being investigated by a special prosecutor of EULEX. /ibna/
