The Ministry of Interior in Skopje has confirmed the arrest of Edmond Themelko, mayor of Pustec in Albania. “Edmond Themelko, of Macedonian nationality, has been arrested following an arrest warrant that was issued. After the arrest, he was sent to the prison of Sutka”, the ministry of Interior said.
Upon the request of the Special Prosecution, Skopje’s Court of First Instance has remanded Themelko to custody for a period of 30 days. The current mayor of Pustec is accused by the Special Prosecution for electoral rigging in 2013. He is accused of organizing large numbers of Albanian citizens who were declared as Macedonians, to massively vote in favor of VMRO-DPMNE of Nikola Gruevski in the elections. Several Macedonian associations in Albania have called on Themelko’s release today. /balkaneu.com/
