A 38-year old man killed his wife and four more persons after opening fire with a ‘Kalashnikov’; 22 persons were wounded including at least three minors in a cafe near Zrenjanin, 66 kilometers north-east of Belgrade. According to Radio-television of Serbia, it was the crime of jealousy.

The suspected Z. S., who was detained on Saturday night, has possessed the rifle illegally and nothing has suggested that he would commit the crime, interior minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said.

Z. S. entered at 1.40 am the cafe in Zitiste near Zrenjanin; first he killed his wife and another female, most probably her friend. After that he continued to open fire on the customers in the cafe.

Two persons died on the spot, while three more passed away in the hospital.

According to local sources, the number of wounded may be higher.
