The President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas in on an official visit in Athens with his official schedule beginning on Monday and continuing on Tuesday. Abbas arrived on Sunday afternoon at El. Venizelos airport, where he was welcomed on behalf of the government by the Labour Minister Giorgos Katrougalos.
According to the schedule of his visit, on Monday at 12:00 the president of Palestine will have a meeting with the President of Greece, Prokopis Pavlopoulos, at the Presidential Palace. At 14:30, he will meet with the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at the Maximos Mansion.
These meeting will be followed by extended talks between the two delegations and then Tsipras and Abbas will hold a joint press conference. Immediately afterwards, the President of Palestine is expected to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
On Tuesday morning, Abbas will go to the Greek Parliament, where he will meet with the House Speaker, Nikos Voutsis and then Palestinian President will address the Chamber of the Senate of the Greek Parliament, where earlier will be read and put to a vote in Parliament the decision for the Greek government to recognise the Palestinian state.
At noon of the same day there is a scheduled meeting between the Palestinian President and the Archbishop of Athens and Greece, Hieronymus.
