France supports Montenegro’s European perspective. Negotiations for membership are demanding and require complete fulfilment of the set criteria. I welcome Montenegro’s decision to accept new methodology for EU enlargement, said President of France, Emmanuel Macron in his congratulatory note on Montenegro’s Statehood Day.
Macron said he wanted to express his own and the solidarity of the French nation.
“I express my heartfelt thanks for the help you provided at the beginning of the crisis to French and European citizens during repatriation. By earmarking over €3 billion for helping WB countries, the EU has demonstrated its full commitment to your region”, Macron pointed out.
He added that this year marks 140 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between France and Montenegro.
“I am looking forward to further strengthening our bilateral relations. French strategy for the Balkans I received last year encompasses greater support to the economic and social development of the region through activities in the field of sustainable development. The French Development Agency will soon begin in Montenegro”, Macron stressed.
The French president said that economic cooperation between the two states “is expanding”, especially in the area of tourism.
In the last few days, many leaders sent congratulations to the Montenegrin president on the occasion of Statehood Day, July 13, including Slovenian President Borut Pahor, the member of the BiH Presidency, Željko Komšić, and Croatian President, Zoran Milanović.
Milanović in his message expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and generous hospitality he received during his recent visit to Montenegro.
“I see my visit to your country and those open and friendly talks we had as a continuation of excellent communication and additional confirmation of our stable relations. I believe we are going to continue working together on strengthening and deepening our relations. As I pointed out during my stay in Montenegro, Croatia strongly supports Montenegro’s European commitment and appreciates its devotion and focus on the implementation of reforms”, Milanović said./ibna
