Leader of the largest Macedonian opposition party Macedonian Social Democratic Union (SDSM), Zoran Zaev has been targeted by pro government media, accusing him of owning private properties in Greece.
Photos have been published in the recent days showing a luxurious home owned by Zaev and his relatives with a value of around 1 million Euros near the Greek coast, while the opposition leader is asked to explain how he has paid for this luxurious villa.
Party in power, VMRO-DPMNE has accused Zaev of explaining to the public opinion how he managed to buy properties, at a time when no official payment results for it.
“The public opinion wants to know how Zaev family has managed to buy a luxurious villa much cheaper than its real price. They have declared that that this villa was bought for 110 thousand Euros, but it’s clear that the real prices of luxurious villas in this coastal areas amount up to 1 million Euros”, declared VMRO-DPMNE.
Zaev doesn’t want to comment, like he said, the properties of his relatives and according to him, this is a game of the government to veer off the attention of the public opinion.
“Personally, I have no properties in Greece. All of my properties are in my country. I don’t want to talk about the properties of my relatives. But, the public opinion must know that half of the patriots of the current government have properties in Greece”, declared leader of SDSM, Zoran Zaev.
One of the properties for which Zaev is accused is a luxurious villa near the coast of Halkidiki. Documents and photographs have been published by pro government media, who express their suspicions that the opposition leader may also have other properties in the neighboring country.
Since the start of the Greek crisis, Macedonian citizens have also bought properties in coastal areas. With the amendments of the law on property possessions in Greece, there’s a growing interest for the purchase of these properties, because the citizens of FYROM have the right to buy properties on their name.
State officials, politicians, business people, media owners possess properties in Greece, mainly in coastal areas. /ibna/
