The head of the Serb party “Freedom, Democracy, Justice”, Oliver Ivanovic has been shot to death on Tuesday morning in the north of Mitrovica.
Party officials said that he was shot in front of his office and then sent to the hospital of Mitrovica, but could not survive the wounds.
Police have cordoned the area off, but no details have yet been provided on the circumstances, motives or the perpetrators.
His political party had undergone pressure during the 2017 local government elections, which were won by the Serb List, a political force founded and backed by Belgrade.
Oliver Ivanovic was waiting for a retrial on charges of war crimes against civil population.
In January 2016, an EULEX court declared him guilty and sentenced him to nine years in prison for crimes against civil population.
In February 2017, the case was brought for a retrial at the Appellate Court in Kosovo.
Oliver Ivanovic had been involved in politics since the end of the war in Kosovo. /balkaneu.com/
