A public prosecutor in Istanbul demanded sentences of life imprisonment for 28 Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) suspects accused of attempting to seize Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen Airport during the July 2016 attempted coup, on Monday, November 27.
“The sentencing demand came during a hearing into the parallel state, known also as the FETO/PDY case, being tried at Istanbul’s 23rd Criminal Court in the Silivri district of the city on Monday.
The suspects, who were jailed pending trial, were accused of attempting to ‘overthrow the constitutional order by using force”, writes Anadolu news agency.
Ankara has been accusing FETO and Gulen in particular, of being the mastermind supporting the overthrow of the Turkish government from inside country’s top institutions, like the military, police and judiciary.
